3 Ways to Potty Train A Dog
54
Teaching a dog or puppy to do their business outside is one of the hardest and most arduous tasks for any dog owner to complete. Let me tell you from experience that it takes patience more than anything. A dog is not a human being, although some of them seem to be just as smart and personable. A dog cannot understand you when you are yelling at it and is not able to decipher language. However, if you know what you are doing, the process of potty training a dog can be quite simple. Those of you having trouble with this process might want to follow some of these proven techniques.
One of the best ways to potty train a puppy is to take it outside whenever it wakes up in the morning. This can be quite stressful because a puppy will usually get up early in the morning. I know this because I have a baby beagle at the moment and am awaken almost every morning by her faint, but constant whimpering. She goes out does her business and then plays for a little while. After playing for awhile she goes back to sleep and all is well. Besides taking them out in the morning, you should also do so right before bed time.
More Potty Training Methods
Another proven method of potty training a dog is giving them positive feedback whenever the go to the bathroom outside. This same technique can also be used to train them to do other things such as tricks. The concept is that if a dog does something, and then gets rewarded for it, then they are more than likely to do it again in order to get the same reward. So if you give your dog a treat, then they will know that they did a good thing by going to the bathroom outside.
Now we get to one of the biggest questions when it comes to “how to potty train a dog.” Hitting or spanking a dog is one of the most debated methods of training a dog to go to the bathroom outside. When a dog uses the rest room inside, many people spank it in order to let the dog know that they are not supposed to do it. Some argue that this is harsh and should not be done. My opinion on the matter is a little cloudy. I think that raising your voice with along with a light tap will get the message across just as efficiently. Many times a dog knows not to do it in the house, but nobody is paying attention. Therefore, the dog goes to the bathroom because nobody noticed that it wanted to go outside. Just remember to have patience and you will do fine.
