Bull Trout Fishing
67What Is A Bull Trout?
First of all, If you would like to learn the basics, check out my article on trout fishing lures. I know, I asked myself the same thing. Before I go into how I go fishing for bull trout, I will first tell a little story when I was fishing in Glacier National Park. I am an avid fisherman, I have fished ever since I could walk. I mainly enjoy fishing in the ocean on some deep sea fishing charters and I love to go trout fishing. So, when my family and I planned a trip to glacier national park, it was just natural for me to bring my pole along. I didn't bring my fly rod along because I knew that I wasn't going to be able to do a lot of fishing. An open cast spinning reel and ultra-light rod were suited for the trip. Once I got to the park I found a little river that was coming from a large lake and I noticed about fifty decent sized trout. I had no idea what kind of trout that they were but I did pick up on the fact that they were not hitting my lures. I used rooster tails and spoons, but had no luck.
Lures For Bull Trout Fishing
As I stated earlier, I noticed that they trout were staying on the bottom and were feeding on some kind of nymph. A good way to tell this is to watch them closely - every once in awhile you will see them turn sideways. This is a good indicator that they are in a feeding frenzy on some kind of nymph. I knew that my chances of getting one of those bull trout to hit my lure, but I kept trying. I eventually hooked one and man was it a big bull trout. I had to follow it down stream because it took off and my drag would have started running low. I fought th fish for about twenty minutes and eventually got the trout in and got a goo picture and then released it. It was a beautiful trout like a rainbow, brown, or cut throat. The bull trout was silver if I remember correctly and did not have a whole lot of color to it, but the fight was good enough for me. If you plan on going fishing for bull trout or any trout in glacier for that matter, then I recommend that you take a fly rod and some wet and dry flies Go to a local fly shop and then ask them what the trout have been hitting lately and you should have a little luck. Thanks for reading this post on bull trout fishing.
