As a long time fisherman myself, I do know a thing or two about fishing equipment. Now I am not a technical guru. I can’t tell you the names for every little part of a fishing reel or how it can help. However, I have been around the block a time or two and know what works best. My work may not be pretty, but I get the job done. Today, I will be talking about the Shimano Thunnus. Now as many of you already know, Shimano is a big name in the fishing industry. If you have not heard of it, then you probably haven’t been fishing long. I hope that didn’t offend anyone, but my point is that this is a well known reel producer. They have been around for umpteen years now and have some quality, affordable equipment in their arsenal. Their products are also available to fisherman all over the place. I can think of about ten different places that sell them off of the top of my head, and half of them are hole in the wall stores. So what does all of this mean? It means that they are not hard to find. They are not hard to find because almost every sporting goods store sells them. I wonder why? I’d say that it is more than likely because they produce some quality gear – wouldn’t you?

Reviews

The only aspect of this product that is bad is the fact that it is really pricy. In this review, we covered a lot of information on the shimano thunnus. However, there are also a few different versions as well. There is the 6000, the 16000f, and the 12000f. The prices that I have reviewed were really high. The cheapest was around two hundred dollars for those of you that would like to know. AS with the others that have I done, this Shimano Thunnus review was no different. I checked out several forums and customer reviews and found what people were saying about it. The reviews that I found were really good for the most part. The only bad ones that I found were only talking about the high price, but as it is with many other topics, you get what you pay for most of the time.

Features of the Shimano Thunnus

This reel packs a big punch. It is constructed with a heavy duty aluminum body that can withstand the elements. Durability is a must for any fisherman looking to catch saltwater fish in the ocean. The thunnus also has a 4.6 to 1 gear ratio. This means that for every complete turn of the handle, line is wrapped four times around the spool. This is a must for serious fisherman attempting to catch some strong fish. One new feature with this reel is the bait runner system. What this feature does is simple and can come in handy. It used mainly for fishermen using live bait. When using live bait, free-lining it is a great method for productively catching fish. So the bait runner system allows the bait to take out line freely with the bell closed. The drag system of the bait-runner feature is made so that that it is easy to tell when the bait has been taken by another fish. Not only does the Shimano thunnus have some amazingly important features, but it is also smooth and feels great to reel. This is important – I mean, who wants a reel that isn’t smooth? I know that I don’t. Another great feature that I forgot to mention is that this reel’s drag system is waterproof. I do not know of many other one’s out there that have this. This is why this product is great for saltwater fishing. Because it is waterproof, a great deal of saltwater is repelling from screwing up any of the parts. From experience, I know that saltwater is the enemy of fishing equipment, especially reels. The reason is because, to put it in simplest terms, it screws them up. I have left my gear out a several times and forgot ti give it a quick shower. The gear that I did leave out was utterly ruined. My reel was so messed up that it would barely move at all.
